ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- A three-run seventh inning wasn't enough, as the Flagler College softball team lost 9-6 in game two of a non-conference doubleheader against Florida Southern College on Wednesday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Going into the seventh, the Saints (13-28, 8-13) trailed 9-3.
With
Courtney Robinson at second and
Cassidy Crump at first base, a single from
Gianna Amundsen put runners in scoring position A wild pitch allowed Robinson to score at 9-4.
Mercedes Salinas followed with a double to right center to plate Crump and Amundsen, concluding the scoring.
Amundsen added her first hit of the season in the fifth inning, with a single to the pitcher. The sophomore batted in
Abbey O'Connor to give the Saints their third run of the game.
The Saints scored their first two runs in the first and third inning, both with a single from Crump to plate
Paige Maseda.
Crump went 3-for-3 during the game, while Amundsen went 2-for-2.
Rachel Hester (5-8) was credited the loss after tossing two innings, giving up six hits and six runs.
Madelyn Wise pitched four innings. The junior gave up two hits and three runs.
The Moccasins secured their first run in the first inning off Jessica Bryson. In the second inning, Taylor Thomas hit a home run to make it 2-1. Florida Southern connected on seven more runs in the third inning, collecting two singles and a three-RBI home run.
Kaylee Cowart (2-2) earned the win after pitching five innings, giving up eight hits and three runs.
In game one, the Saints lost 6-3.
In the first inning, Flagler scored off Robinson's first career home run, batting in O'Connor.
In the second inning, O'Connor singled to the shortstop to plate
Trinity Fry.
Jordan Sheets (7-10) took the loss after pitching four innings and giving up nine hits and five runs.
The Mocs added their first two runs with a double in the first inning and single in the third to bat in Maddi Conner. A home run in the fourth inning by Kiki Morris put Florida Southern up 4-3. A double plated Skyler Ralstin in the fifth inning. In the seventh, Ralstin scored off a sacrifice fly.
Ashley Blessin (9-0) took the win after pitching a complete game, giving up three hits.
Next, the Saints will travel to USC Aiken in Aiken, South Carolina for a Peach Belt Conference series on April 15-16.
