COLUMBUS, Ga.-An early lead was not enough to tame the Columbus State University Cougars as the Flagler College softball team lost 5-4 in a conference doubleheader on Saturday at Cougar Field.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars (27-11, 12-2) tied the game 4-4 with a single up the middle to plate Laura Harris.
At the bottom of the seventh, Columbus State scored their last run after Flagler walked Caitlyn Canady to plate Sorrell.
Flagler (12-23, 7-11) put up three runs in the third inning to make it 4-0.
Paige Maseda opened the inning with a home run to left field.
Cassidy Crump followed with a walk and advanced to second base on a passed ball. A double from
Olivia Parker allowed Crump to score. Parker earned a run after advancing to third on
Mackenzie Smith's single and running home after a foul out in left field.
Maseda went 2-for-4 during play, while Smith went 2-for-3.
In the first inning, Smith's single through the left side plated
Abbey O'Connor and put the Saints on the board.
Madelyn Wise (1-5) earned the loss after pitching four innings, giving up five hits and two runs. The junior walked five batters and had two strikeouts. Wise induced five fly outs and six ground outs.
The Cougars earned three runs in the third inning off Brooke Miller, Katelyn Cooper and Madeline Parker.
Haylee Folds (4-2) earned the win after three innings, giving up one hit.
In game one, the Saints lost 5-0.
Jordan Sheets (6-7) took the loss for Flagler after pitching six innings, giving up seven hits and walking four batters. The freshman had four strikeouts and induced five fly outs and eight ground outs.
The Cougars earned their five runs across the second and third inning. The scoring came from a three-RBI home run from Lindsey Patton and a two-RBI homer from Kenzie Bayer.
Hannah Rose Corbin (13-7) earned the win after throwing a no-hitter.
Next, the Saints will play Columbus State tomorrow in a single conference game at 12 p.m.
