AMERICUS, Ga. – A pair of two-run home runs in the first inning opened the flood gates as Georgia Southwestern State University defeated Flagler College 15-2, in a game shortened to five innings, in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Friday night at Lady Canes Field.
Georgia Southwestern extended its winning streak to five games and improved to 17-5 overall as well as 4-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 9-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Zoe Willis was the first one to hit a home run as her went over the center field wall. Three batters later, Ansley Duffey hit a two-run shot to left center.
The Saints got both of their runs in the top of the second.
Courtney Robinson drove home a run with a single and
Trinity Fry drew a bases loaded walk.
The Lady Canes answered with three more runs in the third and erupted for eight unearned runs in the fourth.
Savana Bradford (8-1) picked up the win in relief as she tossed four scoreless innings, walked three batters and struck out two.
Willis, who started in the circle, hit a double as well as her home run, had five runs batted in and scored two runs. Lacey Rutledge went 3-for-4 with a double, she scored three runs and knocked two more in. Duffey finished with a double, a home run, four runs batted in and she scored two runs.
Jordan Sheets (5-3) took the loss for the Saints. She allowed seven runs on six hits in 1.1 innings.
Cassidy Crump and
Mackenzie Smith had the other base hits for Flagler.
The same two teams meet this afternoon in a doubleheader.
