Flagler finishes in a tie for sixth place at the Hurricane Invite; Whittaker finishes in top 10

ALBANY, Ga. – The Flagler College men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place with a 2-over par 866 (294-287-285) at the Hurricane Invitational, which ended this afternoon at the Doublegate Country Club (par 72; 7,024 yards).

The Saints' final round 285 is the best round of the year and the 54-hole score is the best of the season as well.

Nic Whittaker had his first top 10 finish of the year and the eighth in his career. He carded a 2-under 214 (73-68-73) for his lowest three-round score of the year. Whittaker tied for ninth with the most birdies in the tournament with 12.

No. 6 (Golfstat Division II relative ranking) University of North Georgia topped the 17-team field with a 14-under 850 (275-294-281). They won by five strokes over No. 8 Nova Southeastern University (855). No. 10 Georgia Southwestern State University jumped up four spots to finish third with an 8-under 856. No. 42 Columbus State University (863) and top-ranked Anderson University tied for fourth place with a 1-under 863. Ten of the 17 teams in the field were ranked in the top 50.

Reece Coleman of Anderson University earned medalist honors with a 7-under 209 (70-69-70) to head the 90-man field. He held off Jonty Marshall of the University of Tampa andf Evan Thompson of North Georgia by one stroke. 

Joel Petersson moved up five places to finish in a tie for 22nd place with an even par 216 (74-72-70). Franco Piovano joined Petersson, and three other golfers, in that tie for 22nd place. He finished with 36 pars. Trey Wilson moved up five spots and tied for 38th place with a 4-over 220 (74-75-71). Nicolas Eberhard was the biggest mover for the Saints on the leaderboard as he jumped seven spots to finish in a tie for 62nd place. He carded an 11-over 227 (75-79-73).

Up next for Flagler is the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by conference rival Lander University, March 6-7 at the Greenwood Country Club.
