ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Saints opened conference play with a 4-0 and 11-1 win against Georgia College and State University in a doubleheader on Saturday at Flagler Field.
The Saints (5-8) started the scoring early in the first inning.
Cassidy Crump connected on a double, followed by a single from
Madelyn Childs to first base that allowed Crump to score. Olive Parker made it 2-0 after a double to left field, driving home Childs. After Parker advanced to third on a wild pitch, a home run to center field from
Mackenzie Smith made it 4-0.
Smith went 2-for-3 during the game.
In the third inning, Crump and Childs reached on a Bobcat error. A sacrifice fly to right field allowed Crump to score. With Childs on third,
Courtney Robinson's double down the left line plated Childs to make it 6-1. A triple from
Jordan Moss to right field allowed Robinson to score.
Trinity Fry followed with a single to right center, plating Moss and increasing the score 8-1.
Robinson went 2-for-3 during play.
The Saint added three runs during the fourth inning, After Parker reached first on a Bobcat error, a Smith single advanced Parker to second. A double from up the middle from Robinson pushed Smith to third and allowed Parker to score.
Trinity Fry's single to left center plated Robinson at 11-1.
Rachel Hester (2-2) took the Flagler win after tossing five innings. The sophomore gave up four hits, one run and walked two batters. Hester had two strikeouts during the game.
The Bobcats (10-5) added one run in the second inning with a home run to left field, trailing 4-1.
In game one, the Saints earned their first run after Parker batted in a Maseda with a ground out to the shortstop in the first inning. Maseda went 3-for-4.
Flagler scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Maseda reached second base after a single up the left side and stealing second. A home run to center field from Crump drove home Maseda. Crump went 2-for-3.
Smith added the last run with a homer to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Jordan Sheets (3-1) earned the win after pitching seven innings. The freshman threw a complete shutout, giving up two hits and walked one batter. Sheets had two strikeouts.
The Saints will host Georgia College in a single game tomorrow, Feb. 26 at 12 p.m.
