MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Sharale McCormick scored a team-high 13 points in Flagler College's 53-36 loss to Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at the Centennial Center.
Georgia College improved to 15-12 overall and 7-10 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 6-21 overall and 3-14 in conference play.
The Saints held a 21-20 lead at the half after a layup by
Jessica Dowdy with 31 seconds remaining. Cassidy Markle sank a three-pointer to start the third quarter and gave the Bobcats a 23-21 lead. GCSU would not trail again.
Flagler pulled to within four (31-27) with 1:33 left to go in the third quarter, but Georgia College gained a double-digit lead thanks to a 10-2 run over the next 2:17.
The Bobcat defense limited the Saints to just two made field goals in the second half and forced 17 turnovers in the game.
Alexa Geary scored a game-high 15 points for Georgia College. Myra Strickland added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Dowdy finished with seven points and seven rebounds for Flagler.
Carleigh Grimm grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds.
As a team, Flagler shot 83.3 percent (15-18) from the free throw line. McCormick made 9-of-10 from the line.
Flagler wraps up its season on Saturday when it hosts Lander University at 1:30 p.m. on "Senior Day."
