ST. AUGUSTINE –
N'Mya Pierce recorded her 10
th double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds in Flagler College's season-ending 67-66 overtime loss to Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game on "Senior Day" at Flagler Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Flagler wraps up its season with a 6-22 overall record and a 3-15 mark in the Peach Belt. Lander ends its season with an 8-19 overall record and a 5-13 mark in conference play.
Prior to the game, the careers of Pierce and
Sophie VanDyke were honored.
The Saints trailed by as many as 18 (46-28) with 3:20 left in the third quarter, but went on a massive 23-7 run that was capped by a
Jessica Dowdy three-pointer with 4:30 left in regulation. Flagler trailed by a basket, 53-51.
Later, Dowdy's transition layup with 32 seconds left gave Flagler its first lead, 59-57, since holding a 6-4 lead with 6:42 to go in the first quarter.
Quadaija Langley's layup with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game 59 and sent the game into overtime.
In the extra session,
Taylor Gardner sank a three-pointer to give the Saints a 66-65 lead with 1:34 left. Lander's Jakiyah Parker drew a foul with five seconds left and went to the line and sank both free throws to win the game.
Sharale McCormick added 14 points for the Saints. Dowdy tallied 13 points and six assists.
Carleigh Grimm tied her season-high with 11 rebounds.
Tanyia Gordon led all scorers with 24 points, and she had five steals, for Lander. Parker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while Kayla Sanders added nine points and nine rebounds.
