NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Flagler College women's lacrosse team debuts at No. 17 in the first regular season Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Top 25 poll, which was released this afternoon. Flagler was ranked No. 16 last week by USA Lacrosse Magazine's Division II Top 20. Both polls are the first-ever national rankings for the second-year program.
Flagler's national raking also mark the first time a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse team has been ranked since the sport was added in 2016.
Since the preseason poll came out, Flagler (2-1) has wins over Florida Tech (18-6), then-No. 16 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (16-11) and a tough loss to then-No. 5 Grand Valley State University (12-14).
East Stroudsburg University tops the poll while Adelphi University and West Chester University follow at Nos. 2 and 3. All three teams have yet to play a game. Florida Southern College (2-0) stayed at No. 4 while Le Moyne College checks in at No. 5.
Other teams from the South and Southeast Regions that are nationally ranked are: No. 6 University of Tampa (3-0), No. 9 Rollins College (3-0), No. 12 Wingate University (2-1), No. 14 Lynn University (2-1), No. 19 Embry-Riddle (1-1), No. 21 Saint Leo University (2-0), and No. 25 University of Mount Olive (0-2).
Flagler is in action today (Feb. 20) against Lincoln Memorial University at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
