PENSACOLA, Fla.- Flagler softball's six errors against the University of West Florida allowed a 10-7 loss in game two of a non-conference doubleheader Saturday evening at the UWF Softball Complex.
The Saints (3-6) took the lead 2-1 in the second inning.
Regan Miller drew a walk and advanced to second on a fly-out to right field by
Jordan Moss. Miller advanced to third on a wild pitch before
Kiersten James walked. A single up the middle from
Paige Maseda allowed Miller to score and pushed James to second. A wild pitch advanced both James and Maseda. A single from
Abbey O'Connor allowed James to score.
In the fourth inning, Flagler added three runs at 5-1. A single from James to center field and a bunt from Maseda put runners at first and second. James and Maseda both advanced on a fielder's choice, followed by a sacrifice fly to right field from
Cassidy Crump. Maseda advanced to third and James scored on the throw.
Madelyn Childs drew a walk, while
Olivia Parker followed with a single to left field to plate Maseda. A single to left field from
Mackenzie Smith allowed Childs to score.
Flagler added their last two runs at the top of the sixth inning. A single to left field and a fielding error put O'Connor on second. Crump's single to the pitcher pushed O'Connor to third. Childs reached first on a fielding error, while O'Connor scored, and Crump advanced to third. Crump added the last run after stealing home.
Mallory Forrester started in the circle for the Saints. The freshman pitched five innings and gave up two runs, five hits, walked three batters and had five strikeouts.
Madelyn Wise pitched 0.2 of an inning, giving up five runs, one hit and walked one batter.
Rachel Hester (1-1) took the loss after pitching two innings, giving up three runs, three hits, walked three batters and had one strikeout.
At the bottom of the sixth, West Florida (6-4) tied the game 7-7 with a five-run two-out rally. Flagler committed four errors in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, a Flagler fielding error put runners on first and second. A three RBI home run to center field from Emma Brice allowed the Argonauts to close the game.
In game one, Flagler lost 3-0.
Jordan Sheets (2-1) took the loss for the Saint after tossing three innings. The freshman gave up two runs, four hits, walked three batters and had one strikeout.
Rachel Hester pitched three innings, scattering two hits. Hester gave up one run and had four strikeouts
West Florida scored in the second inning off a double to right center from Chelsea Dumas, followed by an RBI single up the middle from Kayanna Perez. In the sixth inning, a throwing error allowed Madelyn Vasquez to score.
The Saints will travel to Valdosta, Georgia for a doubleheader on Feb.21.
