COLUMBUS, Ga. – Flagler College committed four errors, including two in the 10
th inning, in a 4-3 loss to No. 4 (
Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 40) Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday evening at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
Columbus State extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 0-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Trace Twadorski reached first base in the bottom of the 10
th inning on a throwing error by the Flagler third baseman. He took second on Ian King's single to right field. Connor Kirley followed by dropping down a sacrifice bunt to third, but the throw was errant and Twadorski scored to end the game.
Leo Giannoni (1-0) earned the win in relief as he tossed two scoreless innings and he struck out two batters. Noah Windhorst started and allowed three runs on six hits in six innings of work. He fanned five and walked two.
Gabriel Partridge (0-2) came on to pitch in the ninth inning and worked the 10
th as well. He allowed an unearned run on one hit in one-plus innings.
Gage Voorhees started and allowed two earned runs on nine hits in eight innings. He retired 15 batters on fly outs and seven more on ground outs.
Ashton Thomas belted a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.
Matthew Burke hit a single and scored two runs.
Mason Gray had an RBI single and
Trey Newland had one run batted in.
King led the Cougars as he went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Twardorski singled, doubled and scored a run. Derek Wylie hit a two-run infield single in the seventh to tie the game at 3-all.
Columbus State left 14 runners on base.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
