ST AUGUSTINE. –
Lexie Morton scored four goals for No.16 (
USA Lacrosse Magazine poll) Flagler College in its first game as a top 20 team in a 14-12 loss to No. 5 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Grand Valley State University Thursday evening at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
This was the first loss of the season for the Saints, who now sit 2-1 overall. This was the season opener for the Lakers.
Grand Valley State started the game off scoring the first goal within the first few seconds. However, Flagler fired right back with
Carley Tepel scoring her first of three goals for the game along with
Jessica Wright scoring one of her two goals at the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 2-all.
The Lakers scored six unanswered goals during the second quarter bringing them to a lead of 8-3 at the end of the first half.
Ella Pinder,
Katelyn Trainor, Tepel, Morton, and Wright all managed to find the back of the net in the second half in an effort to beat the Lakers only to fall two goals short of victory.
Flagler will be back at their home field on Monday, Feb. 20, at noon, to play Lincoln Memorial University.
