ST. AUGUSTINE –
Franco Piovano posted his third top 10 finish of the year as he tied for ninth place with a 1-under par 215 (67-75-73) at the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate, which wrapped up this afternoon at the St. Johns Golf and Country Club (par: 72; 7,136 yards). Flagler College finished in 13
th place with a 27-over 891 (298-300-293).
Top-ranked (Golfstat Division II relative ranking) Anderson University finished in first place with a 16-under 848 (282-285-281). The Trojans won by a comfortable 14 strokes over No. 12 Georgia Southwestern State University (-2). Palm Beach Atlantic University (E), No. 8 University of North Georgia (+4) and No. 25 Lander University (+8) rounded out the top five teams.
Calahan Keever took home medalist honors with a 17-under 199 (69-67-63). Andrew Riley of Palm Beach Atlantic finished a distant second with a 9-under 207. Ninety-five golfers competed in the tournament.
Piovano's first round 67 tied his career-best for a round. He was second in the tournament with 16 birdies and he added 27 pars.
Nic Whittaker shot a 4-over 220 (75-73-72), a season-best, to finish in a tie for 30
th place.
Trey Wilson carded an 11-over 227 and tied for 57
th place.
Abe Forsyth finished in a tie for 68th place with a 14-over 230.
Joel Petersson and
Tomas Cavanagh both tied for 88
th place with a 20-over 236. Cavanagh played as an individual.
Up next for the Saints is the Hurricane Invitational Feb. 27-28 at the Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Georgia.
