ST. AUGUSTINE –
Lexie Morton tied a school record with six goals this afternoon leading the Flagler College women's lacrosse team to a 16-11 win over No. 16 (IWLCA) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints improved to 2-0 and it was the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent. Today's game was the season opener for Embry-Riddle.
Flagler trailed 6-3 just before the end of the second quarter and went on to score the next six goals in the game, including three by Morton, and never trailed again.
Jessica Wright added three goals and an assist for the Saints.
Carly LaFerriere and
Madison Daziel each scored two goals and tallied an assist.
Ella Pinder helped maintain possession of the ball today garnering eight draw controls for the Saints.
Kenzie Dillon rallied on the defensive end with two caused turnovers and three groundballs.
Lauren Ribadeneira stepped into the crease once again for the Saints making six saves this afternoon.
The Eagles were led offensively by Madison Ellwood and Sallie Squire scoring three goals each. The Eagles goalie Aubrey Fixen saved 11 of Flagler's 27 shots on goal.
The Saints are now gearing up to face No. 5 Grand Valley State University on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
