SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Gage Voorhees tossed eight innings, scattered three hits, allowed one run and struck out four, but did not factor in the decision as Saint Leo University had a five-run ninth inning to rally past Flagler College 6-5 in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
Saint Leo improved to 2-3 while Flagler is now 0-4.
Flagler led 2-1 going into the top of the ninth inning and used a couple of Saint Leo miscues to plate three unearned runs.
In the home half of the ninth, Bobby Sparling led off with a double and took third on Adrien Roa's single. An infield hit followed by a two-run double by Brennan Reback got Saint Leo back into the game at 5-4. Later, Buck Anderson hit a two-run single to left field to end the game.
Mason Gray finished with two singles, one run batted in and he scored a run for Flagler.
Tim Kudlinski also had two singles and he scored a run.
Matthew Burke added a pair of singles.
In Voorhees' eight innings pitched, he retired 18 of the first 23 batters he faced. Voorhees induced 15 fly outs.
Justin Haskins (0-1) tossed one-third of an inning in the fateful ninth. He faced two batters and walked one.
Anderson went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI to lead the Lions.
Drew Rudsinski (1-0) earned the win in relief as he came on to pitch in the middle of the ninth and got a fielder's choice, a fly out and a ground out.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon for a doubleheader to close out the series.
