ST. AUGUSTINE –
Sharale McCormick tied her career-high with 24 points as Flagler College used a strong fourth quarter to rally past Georgia College & State University 59-53 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 6-15 overall and 3-8 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 12-9 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
The Saints trailed the entire game until back-to-back three-pointers by McCormick and
Jessica Dowdy gave Flagler a 49-46 lead with 4:23 left to go. That was part of a 19-4 run by the Saints that wiped out a six-point deficit.
Amuk Tong ended the 4:49 spurt with a layup that gave Flagler its largest lead (57-48) of the game, and there were only 85 second left to go.
McCormick made 9-of-20 from the field, which included going 4-for-6 from behind the arc. She also managed to grab seven rebounds. Dowdy had her second consecutive 10-point outing, and she corralled a season-high eight boards.
Taylor Gardner finished with nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.
N'Mya Pierce added eight points and six rebounds.
Flagler was red-hot from the field in the fourth quarter as the Saints shot 64.3 percent and they knocked down 83.3 percent of their shots from long range.
Rose Bone led Georgia College with 13 points, six rebounds and she blocked two shots. Harper Vick chipped in with 11 points. Jada Warren grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Flagler travels to Columbus State University for another Peach Belt tilt on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
