WINTER PARK, Fla. –
Dane Bertolina scored a game-high 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and added three steals but it wasn't enough as Flagler College lost to Rollins College 58-46 in a non-conference women's basketball game Friday evening at Warden Arena.
Flagler's overall record is an even 4-4 while Rollins won its fifth consecutive game to improve to 6-3. Flagler now turns its attention to Florida Tech on Monday in the Florida Tech Holiday Classic. The game tips at noon in Melbourne.
The Saints led for the majority of the first half, but the Tars closed on a 10-2 run to take a 30-24 lead into the break. Aaliyah Irizarry scored six of those points for Rollins.
In the third quarter, Rollins pulled away with a 17-2 spurt that covered 6:37. Irizarry's layup with 2:49 left in the quarter gave the Tars a 47-28 lead. She finished the game with a double-double as she scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Saints closed the game on an 11-1 run as Bertolina was responsible for eight of those points.
Destiny McClendon added 14 points and seven rebounds for Flagler.
Sharale McCormick tallied eight points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three steals.
Emily McIntosh finished with nine points for the Tars. Lucy Leen grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Rollins out-rebounded Flagler 52-41, but the Saints forced 15 Tars turnovers. The Tars knocked down 18-of-21 free throws while the Saints only made five trips to the line, but did make four.
