McClendon pours in season-high 24 as Saints cage Panthers

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Destiny McClendon scored a season-high 24 points to help lead Flagler College to a 68-52 win over Florida Tech at the Bahama House Shootout Saturday evening at the ICI Center.

Flagler evened its record to 3-3 while Florida Tech dropped to 3-6. The next game for the Saints is Dec. 12 against Southern Wesleyan University at Flagler Gym.

The Saints went on a 17-6 run that lasted 7:34 of the second quarter to gain their largest lead (39-19). Carleigh Grimm's layup capped the run. Flagler took a 40-22 lead into the half.

The Panthers would not go away as they reeled off 11 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull to within eight (46-38) after a Sarah Liberatore free throw. But that would be as close as Florida Tech would get.

Flagler ended the game on a 9-3 spurt thanks to a three-pointer and a basket by Aspen Weeks.

McClendon made 7-of-12 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Her string of 19 consecutive made free throws came to an end in the second quarter. Maddie Erickson added nine points and five rebounds while Jessica Dowdy finished with nine points. Weeks contributed eight points and four rebounds. Dane Bertolina chipped in with five points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Se'Lah Reddick blocked three shots.

Kyandra Poitier recorded a double-double for the Panthers with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints forced 21 turnovers and scored 21 points off those miscues.
