TEMPE, Ariz. –
Nadja Meier was ranked No. 2 in singles and she joined
Dana Heimen as the No. 7-ranked doubles team according to the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Coaches Poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.
Meier's ranking is the best for a singles player in the NCAA Division II era and the highest since Jitka Schonfeldova reached the same mark in 2002 when Flagler was an NAIA program.
"I am very proud of Nadja and Dana for such a great accomplishment," said head coach Rod Puebla. "I will always say for a player to have a successful fall season, they have to put in the work before they get here in the fall. I know Nadja and Dana did that and it showed."
The senior from Potsdam, Germany posted a 12-2 record in singles play this fall and won the ITA Southeast Regional singles title. Meier advanced to the final round of the ITA Cup.
Meier and Heimen went 6-3 and were the runners-up in the doubles competition at the ITA Southeast Regional. They were eliminated out in the quarterfinal round of the ITA Cup.
Meier tops the ranking in the ITA Southeast Region poll while Meier and Heimen are No. 2 in doubles.
"It also gives us a great opportunity as a team to start our spring season in February on a high note," added Puebla. "We want to achieve better than we did last year."
