Sofia Balsera and the No. 16 Flagler College women's tennis team upset No.11 University of North Georgia, 4-3 this morning at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints earned their fourth ranked win of the season, moving up to 7-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play. North Georgia dropped to 11-4 and 1-1 in conference play. The Saints will stay home next to host Lincoln Memorial University at 10 am on Wednesday, Apr. 1.
Doubles ran into a split, with court one's
Elena Ondobo and
Marie Fairier upsetting No. 20Â Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova, 6-4 on court one. The first win was a dominant 6-2 victory on court three from Balsera and
Leah Waechter over Sofia Giraldo and Chateau-Noix.
The path to victory started with No. 17 Ondobo's 6-4 and 6-3 victory over No. 22 Stokusova. To put the Saints in striking distance, No. 14
Eryka Kruk upset No. 12 Opolska 5-7, 6-2 and 6-0. To clinch the victory, Balsera defeated Linn Goerdes 0-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
