Dig Pink match adds another win for the Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College volleyball team finished the weekend series against Georgia College and State University with another sweep on Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gymnasium (25-23, 25-16, 28-26).
 
Junior Jordan Berglin led the Saints with 12 kills, hitting .455 on the night and completing a double-double with 11 digs. Behind her was Audrey Simmons with 11 kills, 3 blocks and a .269 hitting percentage. Edie Lamoreaux and Molly Boyd kept up their defensive efforts for Flagler, Lamoreaux dug up 16 balls and Boyd posted 5 blocks. Freshman Amelia Fitzpatrick had an errorless attacking game with 6 kills, hitting .400 and adding 22 assists. Lamoreaux and Fitzpatrick each recorded two aces for the Saints.
 
Flagler started off set one with a six point lead, but a timeout from GCSU shifted momentum and put the Bobcats in the lead. The Saints came back to take the lead and held on to finish it 25-23. Holding on to their energy from the first set victory, Flagler took the early lead in set two at 12-4. A big block from Simmons and Boyd made it 18-12 and a kill from Berglin earned set point for the Saints. The Bobcats were able to take two more but eventually fell with the Saints taking set two 25-16. The third and final set was a much closer matchup, going into extra points with 17 tie scores and 8 lead changes. Flagler held the lead at 14-11 before GCSU came back to take it 15-14. The Saints had match point twice and a service ace from Lamoreaux ended it at 28-26 to earn the weekend sweep. 
 
As a team, the Saints posted 46 kills, 46 digs, 10 blocks and 5 aces. In the second set victory, the team hit an astounding .433 collectively. 
 
Rosa Fisher led the Bobcats with 12 kills, while Rachel Machovec led with 12 digs and 8 kills. 
 
Flagler improved to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College & State University is now 10-10 overall and 0-6 in league play. 
 
Flagler will face Lander University on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in Flagler Gymnasium.
