ST. AUGUSTINE –
Marc Birkelund scored a goal and assisted on another as Flagler College rolled to a 4-1 win over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 4-6-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints are 4-0-1 when scoring three or more goals this year. Georgia Southwestern extended its winless streak to 10 matches and dropped to 2-8-3 overall and 0-6-2 in league play.
Birkelund knocked in a rebound in the 61
st minute to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. He picked up an assist on
Paul Hansen's goal in the 88
th minute.
Jackson Kirila also scored a goal and tallied an assist.
Max Gottwald converted a penalty kick for Flagler's other goal.
Chris Salamatou provided the lone goal for the Hurricanes.
Ryan Rivas made one save for the Saints while his counterpart, Dagoberto Romero had five saves for the 'Canes.
Flagler outshot Georgia Southwestern 24-3 and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The last road match of the regular season for the Saints is Saturday as they head to Dahlonega, Georgia to take on the University of North Georgia. Flagler won the match earlier this season (Sept. 30), 4-3.
