Berglin and Fitzpatrick post double-doubles in four set loss

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jordan Berglin recorded her fourth double-double of the season and Amelia Fitzpatrick with her third in Flagler College's 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 26-28) loss to Lander University, Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gymnasium.
Berglin led the Saints with 18 kills, 16 digs and four blocks, while Fitzpatrick had a season high 13 digs and three blocks alongside her 17 assists.
Lainee Mack tallied 28 assists while Edie Lamoreaux led the defensive effort with 19 digs. Colby Stempkowski and Molly Boyd led in blocks for the Saints with five for Stempkowski and seven for Boyd, who added nine kills and hit .318 on the night.
Lander won its sixteenth match in a row and improved to 20-2 overall, staying undefeated in conference play at 7-0. Flagler is now 5-14 overall and 3-5 in the Peach Belt.
As a team, Flagler posted 72 digs, 51 kills, 48 assists, 12 blocks and 5 aces as a team, beating out Lander in blocks and aces.
Katie Miller led the Bearcats with 22 kills and 14 digs. Christina Aguayo added 10 kills, 12 digs and 3 blocks. Patricia Pantoja collected a match-high 24 digs.
Flagler took the early lead in set one after earning six straight points to put them up 9-5. The Saints were able to hold their lead until the set became tied at 17-17. A big block from Audrey Simmons and Molly Boyd tied the set 23-23, but the Bearcats took the next two points to end set one.
Lander held the lead at 15-11 in set two and pushed to a 19-14 lead, but a kill from Colby Stempkowski led a five-point run for Flagler. A block from Berglin and Boyd tied things up at 19-19. Tied at 22-22, a service error from the Bearcats followed by an ace from Lamoreaux gave the Saints set point and a kill from Cassidy Bloom ended it.
Set four featured 11 tie scores and four lead changes. The Saints built a 9-6 lead to start things off, but the Bearcats were able to chip away, eventually tying things up 13-13. The two teams would trade leads and points until Flagler earned the first set point of the set, courtesy of a kill by Bloom. Lander took the lead 26-25 and eventually finished off the set 28-26 for the victory.
