Pierce’s 15-point, 18-rebound effort leads Flagler effort in tough loss to No. 15 North Georgia

ST. AUGUSTINE – N'Mya Pierce recorded her seventh double-double of the season, and third in a row, with 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds as Flagler College's upset bid fell short in a 70-66 loss to No. 15 (WBCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.

North Georgia won its fourth game in a row to improve to 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 4-13 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Saints hit the road to take on Augusta University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

A Sharale McCormick three-pointer with 8:53 left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 53. But the Nighthawks went on a 10-3 spurt over the next 2:29 to take a lead they would not relinquish. Kaylee Stricker started the run with a pair of layups and also added a trey. She finished with 14 points.

The Saints pulled to within a basket (65-63) after a Taylor Gardner triple with 4:17 left, but couldn't draw any closer. Gardner finished with a team-high 17 points and made 5-of-6 from three-point range.

McCormick tallied 13 points while Buse Utku chipped in with 10 points and a season-high six assists.

Flagler made 52.2 percent (24-of-46) of its shots from the field, the team's best percentage of the year since shooting a 61.2 percent clip against Florida Tech on Nov. 15. The Saints were 8-of-15 from three-point range, a 53.3 percent mark.

Caroline Martin scored a game-high 18 points, dished out five assists and tallied four assists to lead North Georgia. Josie Earnhardt added 15 points while Kayla Massop contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.
