Women’s Tennis Makes History, Dominates the ITA Southeast Regional Championships

Box Score SUMTER, S.C. - The Flagler College women's tennis team made history at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Southeast Regional Championships that were held Sept. 23-26. 

For the first time in the NCAA Division II era, the Saints had players in both the doubles and singles finals, with their opponents also being from Flagler. 

In singles, Luisa Hrda, Nadja Meier, Dana Heimen and Eryka Kruk all advanced through the rounds of 64, 32 and 16 to advance to the quarterfinals. Hrda and Meier advanced to the semifinals defeating their opponents 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 7-6(0) respectively in the quarterfinals. 

In the semifinals, Hrda swept Zulay Castaneda 6-2, 6-0 to earn a spot in the singles final. Meier defeated Ana Carla Resende in three sets (1-6, 6-4, 6-1) to join Hrda in the finals. Hrda won the singles championship, defeating teammate Meier, 6-2,6-2 to claim the ITA singles title. 

The Saints completely dominated the doubles bracket as well, with the pairs of Hrda and Kruk as well as Meier and Heimen advancing through the rounds of 32 and 16, the quarterfinals and the semifinals to meet in the doubles final. Hrda and Kruk won the final by default against teammates Meier and Heimen.

The women's tennis team has a short break from fall competition before returning to action Oct. 13-16 for the ITA Cup held in Rome, Georgia.
