Saints roll past Mountain Lions

ST. AUGUSTINE – Molly Boyd and Annie Bart combined to record 16 kills as Flagler College swept (25-11, 25-21, 25-12) Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

Flagler extended its winning streak to three and improved to 8-6 overall and evened its Peach Belt record to 3-3. Young Harris dropped to 3-13 and 0-5 in conference play.

Boyd finished with eight kills and hit a sizzling .636 as she had just one error on 11 swings. She added three aces and three total blocks to her line. Bart also had eight kills and Arianna Lopez added seven more. Jordan Berglin contributed five kills and a match-high 10 digs. Kennedy Muff tallied a match-high 24 assists and hit .600 with three kills.

Lorin Tidick and Shelby Mullins each had four kills for Young Harris. Joha Bernis led with seven digs while Mollie Lawrence had six assists. Sophie Bearden recorded three total blocks.

The Saints used an early 9-2 run to take a 13-4 lead in the first set. Flagler only had three kills in that spurt. The Saints hit an efficient .333 percentage and held the Mountain Lions to a -.143 mark.

The second set featured 10 ties and six lead changes. Back-to-back kills by Boyd and Bart gave Flagler the lead (15-14) for good. Lopez hit .714 in the set with five kills on seven errorless swings.

The Saints opened the third set on a 7-1 run and never looked back. Boyd had a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage as she had five kills on five swings.

Flagler steps out of conference to take on Edward Waters University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
