Saints fall short against Jaguars Friday night

ST. AUGUSTINE – Logan Garcia had 15 kills and five total blocks but it wasn't enough as Flagler College lost to Augusta University 3-2 (25-22, 26-28, 25-21, 23-25, 9-15) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday evening at Flagler Gym.

Augusta improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 5-6 overall and 0-3 in league play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Garcia led the Saints with a .414 hitting percentage as she only had three errors on 29 swings. Jordan Berglin record her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 16 kills and 10 dogs. Audrey Simmons added 14 kills. Kennedy Muff tallied a season-high 51 assists. Edie Lamoreaux collected a team-high 15 digs and had three aces. Cameron Fenner added 14 digs.

Jazmyn Wheeler recorded a match-high 20 kills for the Jaguars. She completed the double-double with 14 digs and she added four total blocks. Abigail Breeden and Samantha Zittrauer each tallied 25 assists. Dariana Luna finished with a match-high 24 digs.

There were 13 ties and six lead changes through the first three sets.

In the fourth set alone, there were 10 ties and six lead changes. Alexis Diaz-Infante had back-to-back kills to give Augusta a 25-23 win and force the deciding fifth set.

Despite trailing 5-0 to start the final set, the Saints stormed back thanks to a pair of kills from Simmons and Garcia while Sidney Hogan fit in an ace in between. After Flagler closed the deficit to 12-8, Augusta went on a 3-1 spurt to close out the match.
