GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Logan Garcia finished with a team-high 11 kills and
Annie Bart added 10 more, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College lost to Lander University 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 24-26) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Finis Horne Arena.
Lander won its eighth match in a row and improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its third match in a row and is now 5-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Flagler hosts Augusta University, the defending NCAA Division II Southeast Region champion, next Friday (Sept. 16) and Saturday (Sept. 17) at Flagler Gymnasium.
Garcia completed the match with a .625 hitting percentage as she had one error on 16 swings. Bart finished with a .348 hitting percentage and had two errors on 23 swings.
Kennedy Muff tallied 34 assists and
Edie Lamoreaux collected a match-high 13 digs.
Katie Miller and Maya Walker led the Bearcats with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Walker hit .412 with three errors on 17 swings. Madilyn Reed tallied 31 assists while Patricia Pantoja gathered 12 digs.
In the first set, the Saints rallied to tie the score at 20, but the Bearcats rattled off the next four points. After an
Audrey Simmons kill fought off the first set point, Christina Aquayo ended the set with spike.
Lander opened the second set on a 6-1 run, but the Saints rallied to knot the score at 10 after a Garcia kill. Later, a pair of Flagler hitting errors gave Lander a 17-13 lead and went on to take the set.
The third set was close throughout as there were 11 ties and two lead changes. Bart's kill tied the score at 24, but Aguayo finished the match with back-to-back kills for the Bearcats.
