Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

No. 17 Flagler gets back on track against No. 15 Tampa

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Anika Nissen continued her strong play at fourth singles this year, winning her 11th consecutive match to help give No. 17 Flagler College a 5-2 victory over No. 15 University of Tampa at the Flagler Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.

The Saints improve to 9-5, while the Spartans drop to 10-6. This serves as the fourth win against a nationally ranked team for head coach Rodrigo Puebla's team this spring season.

Strong doubles play was on display to open the match, something that has been a consistent part of the team's style as the Saints have failed to lose the opening point since ITA National Indoors.

The newly minted No. 5 doubles team in the land of Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf showed why they deserve that rankings, dismantling the Spartan's team, 6-0. Tampa evened the score with a 6-4 win at third doubles, which shifted all eyes to second doubles. Alessandra Traub and Nissen kept their composure and posted a 6-4 victory to give Flagler the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, No. 5 Hrda recorded her ninth singles win of the spring season at first singles, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Florencia Massardo Brain notched her sixth consecutive win, winning at fifth singles 6-1, 6-3.

Schlagenhauf clinched the match with her first singles win against a nationally ranked opponent in the spring season, prevailing over No. 24 Maeva Roquebert in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.

With the match in hand, Nissen scored a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles. UT got on the board with the final two matches, winning at third and sixth singles.

Flagler returns to PBC play next Wednesday, April 13th when the team travels north to Georgia College for a 2 p.m. clash.
