ST. AUGUSTINE –
Tyler Keith went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs batted in and he scored two runs in Flagler College's 7-4 loss to No. 6 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field on "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day."
Columbus State improved to 37-9 overall and 19-6 in the Peach Belt. The Cougars clinched the regular season title last night. Flagler is now 24-25 overall and 16-10 in conference play.
The Saints tied the game in the seventh inning after back-to-back RBI singles by Keith and
Donovan Garcia.
But Colby Brabston broke the 4-all tie with a two-run double down the right field line in the top of the ninth, and Derek Wylie followed with a double down the left field line to plate Brabston.
Peyton Burton struck out the side in the ninth as he only allowed an infield hit to earn his third save of the season.
Logan Seehafer (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he retired all three batters he faced in the eighth.
Brabston went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four runs batted in and he scored a run for the Cougars. David Meadows collected a pair of singles, scored twice and knocked in a run. Matthew McDade and Connor Kirley each finished with two singles apiece.
Ryan Ayrey (1-3) tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief and allowed three runs on two hits to get the loss.
Luke Wellborn hit a pair of singles and scored two runs. Garcia singled twice and drove in a run.
The final game of the series is at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Drysdale Field and is the final regular season game for both teams. There will be a special ceremony before the game to recognize head coach Dave Barnett's 1,000th career victory. The festivities are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
