ST. AUGUSTINE —
Kyleigh Taylor made her last hit at Flagler Field memorable.
Needing one home run to become the new Flagler College single-season home run record holder, the senior catcher took a two-out ball up and over the left-field wall for her 14th blast to surpass Mackenzie Conley as the program's new home run leader on Senior Day.
Not only was it a homer but a grand slam in the fifth inning that brought the Saints within three, making it 7-4 game. It was a score that would hold as USC Aiken took the Peach Belt Conference three-game series at Flagler Field.
Before the game, the Saints (25-23, 9-12 PBC) honored five seniors as
Anna Dumovich,
Bella Munoz,
Taylor Scott and
Alyssa Velez joined Taylor in a pre-game ceremony with friends and family.
The group has been key pieces to the Saints' success over the years and will compete in their final regular-season series at the University of North Georgia, beginning Saturday at noon.
Though the game didn't ended in the Saints' favor, Taylor showed out with the grand slam and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with the three multi-base hits that included a pair of doubles. Velez and Dumovich each had a hit, while
Trinity Fry chimed in with two and
Courtney Robinson and
Olivia Parker had one.
The Pacers (29-18, 11-10) took the lead early, scoring one in the first and adding one-run innings in the second and fourth apiece before spotting four runs in the fifth. Scott (L, 5-7) got the start while Lakyn Phillips (W, 14-7) secured her second win despite giving up the grand slam.
