Saints sweep Mountain Lions in regular-season finale

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 11 Flagler College women's tennis team concluded its regular season with its first sweep of the season, winning 7-0 at Young Harris College Saturday afternoon.

The Saints will enter the Peach Belt Conference Tournament next week, owning a 14-6 overall record and a 6-1 PBC record. The Mountain Lions finish their regular season with a 6-14 record while being 1-6 in the PBC.

As has been the norm all year, the Saints won the opening doubles point, winning all three matches. No. 8 Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf won 6-2 at first doubles for the duo's 14th win of the spring. Addison Skye Breunich and Florencia Massardo Brain posted the same score at third doubles; meanwhile, second doubles featured Alesandra Traub and Anika Nissen winning their 12th consecutive doubles match, 6-3.

In singles, No. 5 Hrda cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at first singles for the junior standout's 15th singles win of the regular season. Schlagenhauf battled back down a set to come out on top, 2-6, 6-2, 12-10, to finish the regular season with a victory.

Traub posted her 13th win at third singles this year, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-1. Nissen lost her first singles match of the spring season, and proceeded to win out from there, winning 18 straight matches after a 7-6 (3), 6-0 win.

Massardo Brain served up her second double-bagel, 6-0, 6-0, of her collegiate career this afternoon at fifth singles to finish the regular season with an 11-7 singles record. Breunich rounded out the singles lineup with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

The PBC Tournament begins next Friday, April 29. Columbus State University will host the event at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
