MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Flagler College posted 16 runs on 25 hits in Friday's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader versus Georgia College, winning both,8-2 and 8-5, to take the series win at the Peeler Complex.
With the two victories, the Saints improve to 23-19 on the year and 8-9 in the PBC. The Bobcats fall to 11-28 and 3-16 in the PBC. Flagler will look to break the brooms out Sunday in the final game of the series, which will take place at noon.
GAME ONE
The Bobcats were the first to get on the board, tagging freshman standout
Rachel Hester for an unearned run in the third inning off an RBI groundout. Flagler responded two innings later with a five-run fifth inning to take the four-run lead. Flagler added three more insurance runs to close out the game, with one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Eight of nine starters recorded a hit in game one, with six different Saints driving in runs. Beltre knocked in two while
Courtney Robinson,
Paige Maseda,
Alyssa Velez,
Olivia Parker and
Gianna Amundsen all drove in one. Beltre stole her first of two bags, while Taylor, Parker and Amundsen drew a walk apeice.
Hester (W, 11-8) earned her 10th complete-game and 11th win after allowing one earned run on seven hits. She also struck out three Bobcats and didn't allow any free passes.
GAME TWO
Georgia College struck first again in game two, scoring on a RBI single in the third inning and adding two more in the fourth. Flagler used the fourth inning this time around to take control, posting four runs in the fifth and adding another four runs in the sixth frame.
All nine starters recorded a hit in game two. Beltre went 4-for-4, with one of those hits being her second triple of the season, while scoring two runs, knocking in one and scoring the game-tying run via
Paige Maseda RBI. Velez knocked in two runs while crossing home plate twice herself with one being the game-winning run thanks to
Mercedes Salinas' bat. Maseda,
Madelyn Childs, Salinas,
Kyleigh Taylor, and Parker all knocked contributed RBIs.
Taylor Scott (W, 5-6) picked up the win in her hometown after coming in to relieve starter
Madelyn Wise. The senior Scott pitched three and a third innings and punched out two while yielding two runs.
