ST. AUGUSTINE — In two matches played Sunday, the Flagler College men's tennis team won both as the 18th-ranked Saints ripped past Michigan-based Northwood University, both 7-0 wins, at the Flagler Tennis Center.
The Saints (5-3) were able to bounce back from a tough loss at Embry-Riddle with the Sunday sweep, which featured some new faces on the courts. The duos of
Cedric Holzmann and
Petr Cervinka, along with
Philipp Lemken and
Oscar Del Granado, secured the doubles points to begin the day. Then, it was straight-set wins from
Jagger Ong-Patzwald,
Max Berner,
Diego Amilibia,
Joshua Fritz and Lemken that secured the first sweep of the day. Northwood (3-6) didn't register more than three points, coming only once in the second set versus Lemken, while Flagler gained another point on court six by default.
Lemken took his morning victory and mirrored it in the evening matchup. After securing his second doubles point win with Del Granado, the sophomore was the second singles player to finish up behind his straight-set, 6-2 and 6-0, win. Just after Lemken, Cervinka clinched the match point, winning 6-2 and 6-3, as he did in doubles with Holzmann in a 6-2 win on court three. Alike doubles,
Nikita Tatyanin was the first to win on his court as he and Ong-Patzwald took the 6-2 doubles point and the 31st-ranked Tatyanin finished his day with a straight-set, 6-2 and 6-1, victory.
Also winning in straight sets was
Jacopo Denitto, Holzmann, and Del Granado to secure the Sunday home sweep.
Flagler will be back in action Wednesday when it hosts 24th-ranked Wingate University for an in-region clash at the Flagler Tennis Center, beginning at 1 p.m.
