Saints dismantle Sailfish with ease

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 15 Flagler College men's tennis team defeated No. 42 Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Flagler Tennis Center, 6-1.

The Saints improved to 5-3 on the season, while the Sailfish drop to 5-4.

"It's always nice to win," Flagler head coach Jonas Piibor said. "I know they were short-handed today, and it will be a much different team we will face next time we see them in two weeks. It's time for us to hit the practice courts tomorrow, so we can continue to improve."

The Saints swept doubles play for the fourth time this year. Nikita Tatyanin and Jagger Ong-Patzwald cruised to a 6-2 win in under 20 minutes for their third win together as Cedric Holzmann and Petr Cervinka earned a 6-3 win to secure the doubles point. The duo has won the only two matches they have played together this year. Oscar Del Granado and Philipp Lemken secured the sweep with a 6-4 victory.

In singles play, Flagler continued to dispatch their opponents with ease. Cervinka served up a 6-1. 6-0 win in under an hour to secure the first singles point for his fifth win of the spring. No. 47 Lemken followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 win of his own to give Flagler a 3-0 edge for his first win as a nationally-ranked player. No. 53 Tatyanin secured the victory for Flagler in his sixth win of the season behind a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Jacopo Denitto posted his fourth win of the spring behind a 6-1, 6-2 showing. Holzmann secured a 6-3, 6-4 win at fifth singles. The Sailfish prevented the sweep by coming out on top at first singles, with Roberto Binaghi defeating Del Granado, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Flagler now shifts its focus for the first Peach Belt Conference match of the season when the Saints welcome Augusta to the Flagler Tennis Center next Saturday, March 19 for a noon match.
