ST. AUGUSTINE –
Gage Voorhees (4-1) tossed a complete game and struck out nine batters to lead Flagler College to a 7-3 win over the University of South Carolina Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 15-12 overall and 8-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken dropped its fifth game in a row and fell to 10-17 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Voorhees finished strong as he retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced. He allowed three runs on four hits and retired 10 batters on fly outs as well as seven more on ground outs. Voorhees tossed 118 pitches, 76 for strikes.
The Saints pushed across three runs in the second inning thanks to a pair of run-scoring singles by
Luke Welborn and
Tyler Keith.
A leadoff walk to
Myles Colangelo in the third would lead to the insurance run. Colangelo moved to third after a hit batter and an infield single by Welborn.
John Fiorenza's fly ball to right was deep enough to score Colangelo to give Flagler a 4-1 lead.
The Saints added single tallies in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings.
Mason Gray went 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs batted in. Welborn finished with two singles, a run scored and one RBI while
Jaiden Warde went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and he scored two runs.
Peyton Boozer (2-1) took the loss for the Pacers. He allowed four runs on four hits in two-plus innings of work.
Nick Tripp went 2-for-4 with a double and he drove in two runs.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
