No. 19 Saints tame No. 21 Jaguars in PBC opener

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 19 Flagler College men's tennis team opened Peach Belt Conference play with a 5-2 win over No. 21 Augusta University Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.

With its fourth straight win, Flagler improves to 7-3 (1-0 PBC), while Augusta falls to 9-4 (0-2).

The Saints earned the opening doubles point behind wins at first and second doubles. Nikita Tatyanin and Jagger Ong-Patzwald downed their opponents 6-2 for their third straight victory as a duo. The point was secured by Oscar Del Granado and Philipp Lemken, who also won 6-2 for their fourth straight victory at top doubles.

In singles play, Tatyanin, who is ranked No. 73 in the nation in the latest edition of the national rankings, cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles to give Flagler a 2-1 lead, good for his eighth win of the spring season and fourth straight. The 6-0 second set is his first bagel of the season. Petr Cervinka followed it up with another solid outing, winning 6-3, 6-2 to extend the lead to 3-1 in his seventh win of the spring campaign, and his fourth straight.

Jacopo Denitto held down sixth singles for the for the fourth straight match, winning 6-1 and 7-5, to secure the victory for Flagler.

No. 62 Lemken suffered a defeat at fourth singles, his first singles loss since March 3rd at ranked Embry-Riddle, falling 5-7, 2-6. Augusta got its second point at fifth singles, with Quentin Cano Perez edging Cedric Holzmann 7-6 (5), 7-5.

Del Granado was the last to finish, taking home a victory at first singles by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (8) for his fourth win of the season.

Flagler returns to Flagler Tennis Center Monday, March 21 when the Saints welcome the University of Montevallo for a 3 p.m. match.
