ST. AUGUSTINE –
Seth Wysocki and
Robert Archbold combined on a five-hit shutout as Flagler College split a doubleheader with No. 25 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field. Flagler took the opener 8-0, but North Georgia took game two, 7-3.
Flagler is now 11-10 overall and 5-1 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia leaves with a 13-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play.
In the opener, Wysocki (3-2) scattered three hits over 6 2/3 innings of work and fanned seven to earn the win. He retired the last five batters he faced. Archbold allowed two hits in the remaining 2 1/3 innings and kept the Nighthawks off the board.
Ashton Thomas drove in the game's first run with a single to left-center to plate
Trey Newland, who led off the first inning with a bunt single and moved up to third after a pair of ground outs.
The Saints scored four runs in the fifth thanks to a three-run home run by
Luke Welborn.
Newland collected a pair of singles and scored two runs.
Mason Gray hit a pair of singles and scored a run while
Tyler Keith singled twice and drove in a run.
Pierce Williams (3-2) took the loss for North Georgia. He allowed two runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Tim Conway went 2-for-5 with a double for the Nighthawks.
North Georgia wasted little time in getting on the board in the second game. Nik Levensteins belted a two-run home run to key a four-run first inning.
Flagler countered with a run in the home half of the first and added two more runs in the fourth.
Jay Pendley (3-0) scattered five hits and three runs in four innings of work. Jake Arnold threw three scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts to earn his second save of the year.
Crews Taylor went 3-for-4 and was a single short of the cycle. He scored two runs and drove in another. Conway added two singles and scored two runs. Kaleb Freeman finished with two doubles, scored a run, and had one run batted in while Jorge Arispuro hit two singles and knocked in a run.
Ryan Ayrey (0-1) surrendered five runs on seven hits, but did have four strikeouts, for the Saints.
Jaiden Warde collected a pair of singles and scored a run.
Flagler steps out of conference on Wednesday to take on Albany (Ga.) State University, on the road, at 4 p.m.
