ST AUGUSTINE -- The Flagler College women's lacrosse team ushered in an era of winning after downing the Webber International University Warriors on Wednesday night at the brand-new Flagler Lacrosse Field, 25-4.
Jordan Green cemented her place in the record books for the newly-minted program, scoring the first goal in program history two minutes and 30 seconds into the contest, off an asisst from
Kate Piscopo. Flagler scored three more goals, coming from
Sophia DeSimone,
Jordan Shughrue and Piscopo before the Warriors would get on the board.
"Very happy with the way the team competed tonight," head coach
Grant Kelam. "Obviously, we have things we need to clean up, but couldn't ask for a better first college game for most of these players."
The Flagler offensive attack overwhelmed the Warriors' defense, with Flagler taking a 14-2 lead into halftime.
The suffocating defense and aggressive offense continued throughout the second half, keeping the Warriors off the board for the entirety of the third period, while adding seven goals to their lead during that time.
Ten Saints found the back of the net. Green finished the inaugural game with a game-high eight points behind five goals and dishing out three assists.
Piscopo posted six goals of her own to go with two assists. DeSimone added four goals and added two assists.
Madison Daziel registered four goals while
Abbey Alex added two goals of her own. Shughrue,
Sydney Onega,
Anna Day,
Ally Miller and
Kenzie Dillon each added one goal.
The Saints corralled 32 ground balls while going 15-16 on clear attempts. Flagler took 36 shots, with 32 of those being on goals.
Alex Eubanks earned the win in the net for the Saints, making four saves in 30 minutes of action.
Flagler returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when they welcome Ave Maria University to Flagler Lacrosse Field for a 5 p.m. start.
