ST. AUGUSTINE –
Luke Welborn hit a two-run home run, drove in three runs and scored three more in Flagler College's 14-10 loss to Queens University of Charlotte in a non-conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Queens improved to 2-1 while Flagler is 1-2.
Welborn's homer in the seventh inning gave the Saints a 10-8 lead.
The Royals got a pair of RBI singles in the ninth to tie the game.
A defensive miscue by Flagler keyed a four-run 11
th inning for Queens. Saints' reliever
Kenny Morgan (0-1) sandwiched two outs around a fielding error by the shortstop. Nick Alderfer drove in the go-ahead run with a single to center and Zach Weston provided the insurance with a three-run home run to right field.
Daniel Bagwell (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Working in his third inning, he allowed a walk in the 11
th inning, but nothing else. He allowed one hit and did not allow a run in his stint.
Donovan Garcia,
Matthew Burke, and
Brad Vondruska each collected two singles. Garcia scored two runs and Vondruska had two runs batted in.
Coy Phillips belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning and finished the game with four RBI.
Robert Archbold tossed four innings in relief for Flagler and struck out six.
Nick Melton went 6-for-6 at the plate for Queens and hit four doubles. He scored two runs and drove in two more. Nick Brassington hit three singles, scored two runs, and drove in another. Riley Cheek scored three runs.
Flagler opens a three-game weekend series with Saint Leo University on Friday at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
