PBC Tournament Preview: vs. North Georgia

ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 21 (NABC Division II Top 25) Flagler College hosts the University of North Georgia tomorrow at 7 p.m. in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal game at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler (21-6) enters as the No. 2 seed while North Georgia (14-13) is the No. 7 seed. The winner of this game will face the winner of the No. 3 Georgia College vs. No. 6 Lander University on Friday at the highest remaining seed (either seeds 1-5) left in the tournament. 

TICKETS
Tickets are available by purchasing them, in advance, through Hometown Ticketing at peachbeltconference.org/sports/2020/10/14/tickets.aspx. The cost is $10 per ticket for general admission. Students with a valid ID from a PBC school will be admitted free.

THE SERIES
North Georgia leads the all-time series 11-7, but Flagler has won six-of-the-last-seven meetings. The Saints won both games against the Nighthawks this season. Flagler downed North Georgia 74-68 on Dec. 17 at Flagler Gym and then rolled to a 67-53 win at Dahlonega.

In the first game, at St. Augustine, Jaizec Lottie led four Saints in double figures with 14 points. Chris Metzger added 12 points and seven rebounds while Chase Fiddler came off the bench to provide 12 points, all on three-pointers. Curtis Lewis added 10 points. Fiddler's trey with 5:55 left gave Flagler a lead (32-31) they would not relinquish. Frank Champion led all scorers with 18 points. Greg Billups, Jr. added 14 points and Kody Shubert supplied 12 points and six assists.

At Dahlonega, Jalen Barr scored a game-high 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and tallied three steals to lead Flagler. The Saints opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Lottie added 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Derrick Ellis, Jr. and Kohl Roberts each tacked on 11 points. Flagler was a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Malik Hardy led the Nighthawks with 14 points. Champion added 12 points and four assists.

SCOUTING NORTH GEORGIA
The Nighthawks enter with a 7-11 conference record and spoiled USC Aiken's "Senior Day" last Saturday with a 69-66 win. That victory snapped a four-game losing streak. Frank Champion leads the team with a 17.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game average. Both rank third in the conference. Malik Hardy, who has only played in the spring semester, is averaging 13.8 ppg and has only started one game. Kody Shubert is averaging 11.2 points and 3.9 assists per game. He is third in the PBC in assists per game. The Nighthawks have one of the toughest defenses in the league as they allow only 68.2 ppg, which is third in the PBC.

SCOUTING FLAGLER
Flagler closed out the season with a 14-4 record in the PBC. The Saints won two-of-their-final-five games after reeling of nine consecutive wins. Flagler is led by NABC All-American Jaizec Lottie who is scoring a team-leading 23.0 points per game. He leads the PBC in scoring and assists, is fourth in free throw percentage and steals, and is seventh in field goal percentage. Jalen Barr is fourth in the league in rebounding (7.8) and is fifth in blocked shots (1.3). Derrick Ellis, Jr. leads the PBC in steals per game (2.0) and is fourth in assists (3.8). Flagler is second in the league in scoring margin at +8.0 ppg, team field goal percentage (46.5) and opponent field goal percentage (41.4). The Saints lead the PBC in opponent three-point field goal percentage (29.0), assists (16.4), and steals (8.7).
