ST AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College women's lacrosse team returned to the win column Saturday night by defeating Palm Beach Atlantic University, 18-5, at Flagler Lacrosse and Intramural Field.
Flagler improves to 3-2 overall while the Sailfish fall to 1-1. This win also serves as the program's first in-region win.
The highlight of the evening occurred in the third period when
Jordan Shughrue netted her 200th career goal, which was one of six she put in the back of the net.
"I'm happy with the way the team bounced back after two hard lessons," head coach
Grant Kelam said. "So happy for Jordan, she has been a great addition to this young team. It is an honor that I was able to coach her for her first and 200
th goal"
The high-powered offense that the Saints showed in their first two games returned, scoring six goals in the first period. Shughrue provided two,
Katelyn Trainor supplied two more, while
Zoe Howe and
Carly LaFerriere each added one.
Kelam's squad kept its feet on the gas for the rest of the game, never letting the lead drop below four goals at any point while the Sailfish committed 19 turnovers, with 10 of them caused by Flagler defenders.
Trainor ended with four goals, Howe with two while
Sophia DeSimone scored her first goal in two games. Flagler also got goals from
Katie Stubits,
Jordan Green, and
Madison Daziel.
Flagler returns to action with its first road test with a short trip to Daytona Beach for a matchup with Embry-Riddle March 2 at 7 p.m.
