No. 21 Saints rally late to down the Bobcats

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jaizec Lottie scored a game-high 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half, to rally No. 21 (NABC Division II Top 25) Flagler College past Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night, on "Senior Night," at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 21-5 overall and 14-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College had its four-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 20-6 overall and 12-5 in conference play.

"I thought that was a great college basketball game," said head coach Chad Warner. "Both teams played at a high level and showed great toughness. I was really happy for our seniors and proud of our team."

Before the game, Flagler honored its seven seniors: Derrick Ellis, Jr., Curtis Lewis, Lottie, Chris Metzger, Kohl Roberts, Lawrence Slim, and Tim Thomas.

The Saints trailed for 32 minutes and 40 seconds, but used a 13-4 burst midway through the second half to take their first lead since the 9:55 mark of the first half. Eight of those 13 points in that run were free throws, including Jalen Barr making the first of two free throw attempts to give Flagler a 64-62 lead.

A Jordan Thomas layup 42 seconds later tied the game, but Lottie was clutch again as he buried a three-pointer right in front of the Saints bench and they never trailed again.

Lottie added a game-high eight rebounds and five assists to his line. Ellis, Jr. finished with 18 points, four assists, and four rebounds. Barr tacked on 13 points.

Flagler was able to force 14 Georgia College turnovers and convert them into 19 points.

Jordan Thomas led the Bobcats with 18 points while Wesley Simpson added 15 points and six rebounds. Brandon Thomas contributed 11 points.

Flagler wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Lander University at 3:30 p.m.
