AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Tori Pearce recorded her team-high 15
th double-double with a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College was defeated by Augusta University 71-66 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Augusta won its third game in a row and improved to 14-11 overall and 7-9 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 11-15 overall and 5-11 in conference play.
"I was proud of our team's never quit attitude today," said head coach
Mo Smith. "We look to play with that same effort and attitude the rest of the way."
The Saints trailed by as many as 15 points (58-43) late in the third quarter, but went on a 20-7 run to make it a one possession game.
Jaziana Mathis capped the run with a three-pointer with 58 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 65-63.
Augusta scored six-of-the-last-nine points in the game to hold on.
Mathis finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for Flagler.
Kennedi Manning recorded a double-double with 16 points and had a game high 15 rebounds. Kiera Howard added a team high 17 points for the Jaguars. November Morton supplied an additional 16 points.
Flagler will play its final home game of the season on Wednesday against Georgia College at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
