TEMPE, Ariz. — In the first regular-season national rankings, the Flagler College men's tennis team debuted at No. 18 in the ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll, the association announced Thursday.
Â
It didn't take long for first-year head coach
Jonas Piibor and his Saints to enter the conversation. On Saturday, Flagler stunned then fourteenth-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery to open the season in impressive fashion behind a 7-0 victory. The Saints followed it up with another in-region victory, defeating Florida Southern College, 6-1, Wednesday evening.
Â
The Saints (2-0) are one of four Peach Belt Conference teams in the rankings, joining newly top-ranked Columbus State University, No. 10 Lander University and No. 11 the University of North Georgia.
Â
Flagler has been led by a trio of returners
Nikita Tatyanin,
Philipp Lemken and
Cedric Holzmann — while three newcomers —
Oscar Del Granado,
Petr Cervinka and
Jagger Ong-Patzwald — have shaped the mold of the top six singles players as well as gelling in doubles.
Â
The Saints will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Rollins College for a 3 p.m. match.
