ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - In their second conference match of the season, the No. 3 Flagler College men's tennis team defeated No. 27 Lander University 6-1 this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints extend their three game win streak as they advance to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in conference. The Bearcats fall to 10-3. Flagler has a short turn around as they host Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday, Apr. 1 at 2 p.m.
Doubles play was tight on all three courts as each finished in 6-4.
Filip Kana and
Ilian Borlee evened the doubles match 1-1 after their win over Anton Krondell and Max Barriere. To give the Saints their first point,
Aniss Rafiq and
Simon Malis defeated smail ElShafei and Benjamin Bates on court two.
Playing his first collegiate match on court four was
Raphael Rousson. Stepping up to the spot, No. 41 Rousson handled ElShafei 6-1 and 6-3. Kana gave the Saints their third point after his 6-3 and 6-0 win over Chan Min. To finish the match, No. 34 El Rafie defeated Brendan Jayaprakash 2-6, 6-0 and 6-3.
After completion, Malis and Borlee gave the Saints their final two wins. No. 10 Borlee played at court two for the second match in a row, defeating Krondell 6-4 and 7-6(7-2). No. 13 Malis finished the day with a 4-6, 7-5 and 6-3 win over Julian Peter.
