Lottie and Roberts power No. 21 Flagler past Clayton State

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jaizec Lottie and Kohl Roberts combined to score 53 points and grab 19 rebounds as No. 21 (NABC Division II Top 25) Flagler College defeated Clayton State University 74-57 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 20-4 overall and 13-2 in the Peach Belt. This is the first time the program has won 20 or more games since the 2007-08 season. Clayton State dropped to 8-17 overall and 3-12 in conference play.

"I thought we really played hard tonight," said head coach Chad Warner. "Jaizec and Kohl had big nights and our crowd made a huge difference again for us. I am really happy for our team."

Flagler closed the game on a 10-2 run as the Saints defense limited the Lakers to three made field goals in the final 6-minutes, 19-seconds. Flagler never trailed in the game.

For the fourth time this season, Lottie scored 30 or more points as he finished with 32 to go along with six rebounds and four assists. He had 19 points in the first half alone. Roberts recorded his second double-double of the season with 21 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Derrick Ellis, Jr. tallied four assists and had four steals.

Flagler out-scored Clayton State in the paint 44-26 and enjoyed a 41-29 advantage in rebounds. The Saints shot 50 percent or better from the field for the eighth time this season as they finished at 50 percent.

Ricardo Lynch led Clayton State with 14 points and seven rebounds. Austin Hadden and Xavier Womack each added 12 points. Womack grabbed seven rebounds.

The Lakers struggled from long range as they made just 4-of-24 of their shots.

It will be a top 25 showdown on Saturday as Flagler visits No. 12 Augusta University at 3:30 p.m.
