Saints pull away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Fighting Knights

ST. AUGUSTINE – A 16-3 run to open the fourth quarter was all that Flagler College would need as all five starters scored in double-figures in an 84-70 win over Lynn University in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 3-8 overall while Lynn had its three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-3.

With the score tied at 57 after three quarters of play, Taylor Gardner started the run with a transition layup and a three-pointer. She finished the game with 16 points and tied her career-high with six assists. Sharale McCormick accounted for five points in the spurt, and she led the Saints with 20 points. McCormick shot 66.7 percent (8-12) from the field and added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Lynn was limited to 22.7 percent (5-22) shooting from the field in the fourth quarter and missed all nine three-point attempts.

N'Mya Pierce recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Sara Pedraza poured in 17 points while Beka Benge tallied a career-best 11 points.

The 84 points tonight was a season-high for the Saints and they made a season-best 31 baskets.

Ella Fiore led the Fighting Knights with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jada Marone added 15 points, six assists and four steals while Rachel Romich came off the bench to provide 12 points.

Flagler will take a break for the holidays and will play its final non-conference game on Dec. 29 at Saint Leo University.
