YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –
Taylor Gardner scored a team-high 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and tallied four assists in Flagler College's 63-51 loss to Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday afternoon at the Hart Recreation & Commencement Center.
Young Harris improved to 4-3 overall and evened its Peach Belt record at 1-1. Flagler is now 2-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Sara Pedraza sank a three-pointer to give the Saints an early 3-2 lead, but the Mountain Lions went on a 20-5 tear over the next five minutes and never trailed again.
Flagler made a run in the third quarter and trailed by one (30-29) after a Pedraza trey with 9:31 left, but the Saints could not get any closer.
Pedraza finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Laney Noreika grabbed six rebounds.
Flagler held Young Harris to 8.3 percent (1-12) shooting in the second quarter and 18.8 percent (3-16) in the fourth quarter.
Mackenzie Johnson led the Mountain Lions with a game-high 19 points and she added 12 rebounds to go along with five assists. JaMari Frederick added 18 points while Magdalene Adebanjo recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Flagler hosts Lynn University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
