Saints sweep Bobcats on “Senior Day”

ST. AUGUSTINE – The careers of fellow seniors Logan Garcia and Kennedy Muff were honored after Flagler College swept (25-20, 25-23, 25-19) Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym on "Senior Day."

With the win, Flagler has locked up the No. 3 seed in next week's Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Saints are 15-8 overall and 9-5 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 11-18 and 7-8 in conference play. The Bobcats will be the No. 4 seed. Flagler wraps up the regular season tomorrow at 2 p.m. against USC Aiken at Flagler Gymnasium.

Garcia finished with 10 kills, a .450 hitting percentage and a pair of blocks while Muff tallied 36 assists and had eight digs in one of their final home matches.

Jordan Berglin notched her eighth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs for the Saints. She finished with a .348 hitting percentage. Audrey Simmons added 10 kills to go along with six total blocks. Molly Boyd chipped in with 10 kills, hit .421 and added three total blocks. Edie Lamoreaux paced the defense with a match-high 12 digs.

Rachel Machovec led the Bobcats with nine kills and 11 digs. Riese Johnson tallied 13 assists.

This was the third meeting in a row between the two teams. Each side had won a five-set match in Milledgeville last weekend.

It was looking like another back-and-forth match today from the opening serve. A Boyd kill broke a 16-all tie in the first set and sparked a 7-0 run by Flagler. Georgia College fought off three set points, but a hitting error gave the set to the Saints. Simmons led Flagler with five kills.

The second set featured 13 ties and three lead changes. A double-block by Simmons and Boyd gave Flagler the lead for good at 20-19. Once again, the Bobcats staved off set point three times until a Simmons kill ended the set. Garcia had four kills on five errorless swings for an .800 hitting percentage.

The Saints opened the third set on a 12-5 run and withstood a rally by the Bobcats to complete the sweep. It was only fitting that the last point on "Senior Day" came from a kill by Garcia and the assist from Muff.
