N'Mya Pierce dribbles up the court after grabbing a long rebound

Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pierce’s double-double helps Saints swat Wasps

ST. AUGUSTINE – N'Mya Pierce recorded her second double-double in as many games with 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to help Flagler College squeak out a 63-62 win over Emory & Henry College in a non-conference women's basketball game Wednesday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 2-6 while Emory & Henry dropped to 2-4.

The Saints led for the majority of the game but the Wasps rallied in the fourth quarter as they took a 55-53 lead after a Breanna Yarber basket with 5:03 left to go in the game. The Saints stormed back with an 8-2 run of their own over the next two minutes. Taylor Gardner hit a jumper and a three-pointer to cap the spurt. Her trey with 2:45 left gave Flagler a 61-57 lead. She finished with 13 points.

Mimi Traynham hit three-of-four free throw attempts in the final 41 seconds. With just one second left, she made the first free throw, but missed the second, which would have tied the game at 63.

Sharale McCormick scored a game-high 22 points and she grabbed eight rebounds for the Saints.

Flagler out-rebounded Emory & Henry 47-36 and the Saints had a season-low seven turnovers. That was the fewest turnovers the Saints have had since Nov. 15, 2019 when they had the same amount at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Brylee James led the Wasps with 19 points. Yarber and Amaya Lee added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Emma Santoro grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Saints will take a break for exam week and will return to the court for the Peach Belt Conference opener at No. 8 (WBCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia on Dec. 10.
